Thanks to the commitment of Bahlsen LLP and Shortenills Sustainability Centre 50 children from five schools could attend the Plant-for-the-Planet Academy in Shortenills Sustainability Centre on 10th Oct. 2014 (www.shortenills.org.uk). The participation was of course free-of-charge.
The Academy was an eventful and enjoyable day that informed children age 9 to 12 about climate crises and empowered them to get active themselves. The previously appointed Climate Justice Ambassadors led through the varied day.
The children not only planted 125 trees to commemorate 125 years of Bahlsen baking biscuits, but also learned about global injustice in the World Game, trained their presentation skills in a public speaking training and developed their own projects to motivate classmates and grown-ups to become active for climate justice.
These project ideas and a short presentation about climate crises were presented to parents, friends, organizers and guests at the end of the day. As you could tell by the applause, everybody was impressed by the performance of the children.
Deservedly the children received their certificates, which recognized them as Climate Justice Ambassadors. An interesting day had come to an end. Apart from the experience and newly found knowledge, all new Ambassadors took with them a copy of the book Tree-by-Tree, and of course the Plant-for-the-Planet t-shirt.
The Plant-for-the-Planet team would like to thank everybody who was involved in this wonderful Academy. Special thanks go to the organizing team of Ms. Wendy Davis from Plant-for-the-Planet UK as well as to Ms. Laura Jaspers from Bahlsen LLP. Not to be forgotten are the many helpers and supporters, without whom the implementation of the Academy, venue, technology, food, tree-planting event and much more would not have been possible. We are looking forward to the next Academies which are announced at the Plant-for-Planet website.Zurück
