Trees for Nigeria

The academy commenced at exactly, 10am. Students from different schools, teachers and invited guests attended the academy.

Mr Ayodele Adeleke, member of the Team Plant –for-the-Planet Ibadan, introduced the team, the Program coordinator, the invited schools and ambassadors. The Principal of the host school, Mr. Olayimka Muraina welcomed the participants and gave his opening remark. The invited ambassadors were: Victoria Adetona and Ehiare Vivian. The duo of them handled the presentation using our teaching materials as their teaching aids. The presentation was named: now we children save the world. The lectures discussed the following topics: causes of climate change, effects, solutions, green houses gases, CO2, Climate justice, renewable energies and more about Climate Justice Ambassadors and the activities of Plant-for-the-Planet. The program coordinator contributed to the presentation to explain some technical terms to the participants.

The children watched the film – the man who planted trees. Later on they were served little refreshments during the break. After the break the kids started playing the “World Game” in which they contributed playing figures, candy and balloons on world maps laid out on the floor. The figures were respective of the world’s population, wealth and CO2 emissions.

The participants were later broke into four different groups for the World Café in which each group did deliberate on different major topical issues such as: How they can involve media in promoting the project in Nigeria, how can they organize tree planting party in their communities and schools and deliberation on how they involve their parents and friends in the project. The groups were happy to read out the outcomes of their deliberations. During the groups’ presentations some outstanding students who were eloquent and could comport themselves excellently were identified.The include Ajagbe Fathia, Mubarak and Ganiyu Lekan.

During the tree planting session the participants were taught how to plant, the importance of tree planting and the best time to plant and the essence of tree planting. The children were happy to be involve in tree planting activities. Cashew Fruit seedlings trees were used for tree planting demonstration. All in all 8 seedlings were planted.

The participants were happy about the knowledge they have gained during the academies. The certificates were later presented to the participants. In his closing remarks, the program coordinator- Prince Olawuyi Seyi urged the participants to ensure that they keep promoting the concept in their various communities. A group photography was taken and the event came to an end at 4:30pm.
