First Contract Between Plant-for-the-Planet and a Major City

26.04.2012

Quintana Roo, 11 April 2012
Today at 6 a.m. Felix went to Chetumal, the capital of Quintana Roo, which is at 3 hours from Tulum where we were based. When he returned at midnight, he brought with him a contract!
Nobody had expected this.

Felix went to Chetumal with the plant to give a presentation to other children and to talk to some politicians. When Felix at 4 p.m. already was on his way back, the mayor - whom he met at noon - called him to let him know that he would sign the contract Felix called for today! Felix and Luis from Chetumal, who ran for the Global Board, negotiated the contract by themselves with the lawyers. In a spontaneously convoked ceremony with press conference, the contract was signed at 7:10 p.m. That was a historic moment for the children initiative.

Luiz from Chetumal, member of the Global ChildrenBoard 2012/13 gave a speech in Chetumal - the capital of Quintana Roo - on April 11th

It was in Chetumal too, that Felix on 26 April 2011 gave a speech in the parliament of the state of Quintana Roo, being the first non-member of congress. Back then, Felix called for a bill that each citizen has to plant 150 trees. The city of Chetumal has 140,000 inhabitants, including the suburbs there are 240,000 inhabitants. For Plant-for-the-Planet this contract means 240,000 times 150 trees = 36 million trees until 2020. One year later, we got this fantastic result.

Here's the contract:
