75 new Ambassadors get planting in Nepal

75 children took part in a Plant-for-the-Planet Academy at Janata Higher secondary school, Phapharbari , Makawanpur on February 22, 2013.  Phapharbari is a remote part of this district about 45km from the main city which is mostly inhabited by the marginalized Tamang community.  The participants came from 8 different schools in the region.Pariwartan Nepal, a local NGO was the local supporter of the academy.

The students leanred so many new things at the Academy, as it was very the first program in such remote area. Sumitra, a 13 year old student shares- "I have never watched such presentation in my life even it was my first experience with Laptop. It is really great to learn so many things about climate change and how it is impacting our life."

     

Similarly another student Santosh B.K, 14 said, "now I sure going to do something in my school. I am really so excited to talk about climate change at my community and school, I hope everyone will support me in the coming days as well."

A school teacher Rina Lama explained that as well as students, this academy teaches we teacher as well, "we learned many things about how to motivate students on environmental issues and how the developed countries are responsible for it." 

Different Eco Clubs were formed in different schools and they all made a commitment to plant trees and other green activities in their schools.  

As part of the Academy students and teachers planted trees, as well. Around 78 different saplings of 5 different species – Mango, litchi, sapota, Neem , Jack fruit and Guava were planted in the yard of Janata Higher Secondary School. The Principle and school Eco Club will take the responsibility for the further care of the plants and their management. At the end ceremony of program, the Principle of Janata Higher secondary school, Ram Bahadur Thokr, offered a vote of thanks to Plant-for-the-Planet and other helping hands. He further added that all these programs added a boost for the students and teachers and that is why I hope for the continuity of such good-doing in the community. We are always ready to help in any way and will engage our students more and more in such activities in the future as well.
