3 Academies took place in Ghana in the month March, the 1st Academy started on 13 March 2019, the last one was on 18 March 2019. All 3 Academies took place in the Northern Region of Ghana.
There were weeks pre-arrangements done with the various schools that participated.
It was such a great moment for all the participating schools as they feel respected and fortunate to be contacted for such an educative program.
The Academies started between 8 am and 9 am, The teams normally arrive some minutes to time in most cases to allow us rearrange the venue to suit our program and the Academies closed around 5pm same day.
We kick the programs start with an introduction from the team to allow the children and teachers around to have an idea what the whole program is about, what to expect from us and what we equally expect from them, we distribute T-Shirts to all participants before the start of the presentation by a Climate Justice Ambassador assisted by a moderator, we go through the modules with the children and at the end each child receives a book (Tree by Tree),a certificate. The catering is providing to all participants free of charge.
All Academy participants become Climate Justice Ambassadors and join the global network of Plant-for-the-Planet.
During the Academies we had 80 children attending, so the total number of the participants in the 3 Academies is 240 children. The most important aspect of the whole program is how the effects of the greenhouse gases works and the reduce of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. We plant trees to serve as an additional carbon sink and teach the children how to plant trees and take care of them. We also encouraged all participants to plant more trees. During the Academies we demonstrated the planting-process with a few trees and give the rest ones to the schools to plant on a later date due to time constraints.
The children are given the opportunity to learn the world distribution of population, income and carbon emission, they are also trained to give presentations to the invited guests, their parents and their colleagues.
In total, there were 288 trees planted. Thanks to Mr. Murtala Mohammed, who supported the trees for 2 Academies.
The children during the Academies actually made us see the reason, why we have to train children to be Climate Justice Ambassadors. All 3 Academies were fun and educative. We had a good reception by all the heads of the participating schools.
