Child Labour
HALBA, the manufacturer of The Change Chocolate, is committed to upholding human rights in its supply chains, including children’s rights (Source: see „Policy und Maßnahmen Plan zum Schutz von Kindern„, in German only). In accordance with the UN Guiding Principles, HALBA conducts a thorough review of its supply chains every year to identify any negative impacts on human rights and to avoid, mitigate, or remedy these impacts through appropriate measures. HALBA follows the OECD Due Diligence Guidance in doing so.
In cocoa farming in West Africa, the risk of child labour is particularly high. HALBA sources cocoa exclusively from cooperatives with which it works closely, such as Kuapa Kokoo in Ghana.
Sustainability
HALBA is among the most sustainable chocolate manufacturers in the world. In the 6th edition of the Chocolate Scorecard, compiled annually by over 30 NGOs, HALBA ranked 2nd among the world’s largest producers. The manufacturer is particularly strong in the areas of agroforestry, climate protection, and fair income.
The ingredients used, such as cocoa and sugar, come from fair trade. HALBA ensures that these are sourced as directly as possible from certified cooperatives – without intermediaries. This way, more money remains with the farmers. For soy as well, HALBA relies on non-GMO and sustainable cultivation.
