Program Coordinator (m/f/d)

Help build a generation rising for Climate Justice — and a system that empowers them.

We are currently looking for Coordinators in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Ireland, UK.

Plant-for-the-Planet is a global network working to restore and protect forests and fight for climate justice. We empower children and young people, restore forest ecosystems, conduct research, and provide free tools and advice to restoration organizations around the world.

We’re looking for passionate, reliable, communicative and creative people to become Plant-for-the-Planet Program Coordinators for our global network. In this role, you’ll be running workshops and academies where children discover climate justice and become Ambassadors and building mentorship groups where young people stay active and keep growing over time. If you care about children and youth having a real voice on the issues that affect their future – and you want to be the person who makes that happen in your region – this role is for you.

As part of our growing network, you’ll see how children become Climate Justice Ambassadors, how local groups grow into movements, and how Program Coordinators like you turn ideas into action.

What you’ll be doing

Your Mission

This role is hands-on. As a Program Coordinator, you’ll be laying the foundations for a regional and national empowerment system. You’ll be supported by our Foundation and a national Cluster Head, practical toolkits, and a growing community of like-minded Program Coordinators from around the world.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Building partnerships — establishing new collaborations, especially with schools, youth organizations, and local governments who want to host workshops or support youth engagement
  • Local Mentorship — launching your own mentorship groups (depending on context with a team of volunteer mentors), making sure the group of ambassadors stays active, supported, and visible
  • Organizing activities — planning and running public events such as academies, school workshops, tree planting activities, campaign days, or local talks
  • Supporting young people — helping children develop their own initiatives and celebrating their successes through storytelling, media, and events
  • Representing the movement — at meetings with young people, teachers, or activists in your country
  • Network participation — actively engaging in the global Program Coordinator network to share tools, solve problems, and develop new ideas
  • Accompanying youth — to regional or national events such as children’s conferences and the Youth Summit

This role is designed for someone with strong motivation and an open mind.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need a specific background — but you do need to be genuinely motivated and organized. People who do well in this role tend to be self-starters who enjoy working with young people and can manage their own time. Communicating with the Foundation, other team members and your local community is crucial for success, so you should be confident using common tools and channels like email, phone and online calls as well as having in person conversations.

You’re probably a good fit if:

  • You care about environmental issues and want to do something meaningful about them
  • You enjoy working with children and young people (ages 9–16)
  • You enjoy organizing in-person events
  • You’re reliable, flexible, and good at getting things organized
  • You can communicate fluently in the local language and have a working level of English for international calls and exchanges
  • You’re over 18 years
  • You have access to stable wifi for virtual meetings
  • Bonus: you have experience in education, youth work, or have access to local schools or teacher networks

Requirements

To work with children and young people in our programme, all Coordinators must:

  • Provide a clean criminal record check (or equivalent background check required in your country for working with minors)
  • Complete our online Safeguarding training
  • Agree to and sign our Code of Conduct
What we offer

This is a freelance role with real flexibility — you can fit it around studies, other work, or other commitments. We’ll give you everything you need to get started and won’t leave you to figure it out alone.

  • Payment based on our international payment scheme which is linked to Academy, mentorship, and school workshop outcomes
  • A stipend to cover stable wifi access
  • A full onboarding and online training through Google Classroom
  • Regular calls with your national team or Cluster Head
  • Invitations to coordinator gatherings, international exchanges, and peer learning spaces
  • Access to events hosted by Plant-for-the-Planet
  • A community of Coordinators across Europe and beyond, part of a worldwide movement of over 100,000 young Climate Justice Ambassadors
