How your donation restores forests

Seven steps: From degradation to biodiversity

Analyse restoration sites

Our botanical team studies soil conditions, rainfall, and native species in degraded and nearby areas to determine what’s needed to restore healthy and biodiverse forests.

Collect native seeds

Local collectors gather seeds from nearby ecosystems, including rare species, helping us restore forests that truly belong to the landscape.

Grow resilient seedlings

Restoring forests starts in the tree nursery. By growing strong, native seedlings, we give every tree the best chance to survive and thrive.

Prepare Sites

Before planting can begin, we remove grasses around the planting holes. To seed up the process, this is usually done by cutting lines with machetes.

Plant Seedlings

The most likely moment for a seedling to die is in the process of being out planted. To increase their chance of survival, we only plant in the rainy season when there is sufficient water for the seedlings to establish themselves.

Protect young trees

In the first years, fast-growing grasses compete with seedlings for water and sunlight, putting their survival at risk. We clear the surrounding grass so each young tree has the space and resources it needs to grow.

Long-term monitoring

We continuously monitor seedlings and the wider ecosystem to understand what works and improve what doesn’t. Using distributed monitoring plots, we collect data year-round to measure and strengthen our impact.
