Sagar Aryal is a technologist and climate leader with over 15 years of experience designing digital systems for environmental action. As CTO at Plant-for-the-Planet, he leads the development of open-source platforms such as TreeMapper, FireAlert, and Tracer, enabling organizations worldwide to restore forests, monitor impact, and scale nature-based solutions.

Sagar Aryal is a climate technologist and Chief Technology Officer at Plant-for-the-Planet, where he leads the digital infrastructure behind one of the world’s largest ecosystem restoration initiatives. Growing up in Nepal and witnessing the impacts of melting Himalayan glaciers shaped his long-term commitment to climate action. At age 10, he founded the Sano Sansar Initiative, marking the start of his work in environmental and social change.

With over 15 years of experience in climate technology and sustainable product leadership, Sagar specializes in building scalable, transparent systems that connect governments, NGOs, local communities, and global supporters. He leads the development of Forest Cloud, an open source suite of digital tools that uses satellite imagery, AI, and on-the-ground verification to monitor restoration efforts and ensure accountability at scale.

Since joining Plant-for-the-Planet in 2012, including serving as President of the Global Ambassador Council and as a Board Member of the Foundation, Sagar has played a key role in strengthening youth participation and democratizing technology for climate action. Under his leadership, the organization has supported the restoration of over 100 million trees worldwide, enabled tens of thousands of users to track impact transparently, and contributed to thousands of local jobs in restoration landscapes. Beyond his role at Plant-for-the-Planet, Sagar is deeply engaged in global environmental governance. He serves as Vice Chair of the Global Environment Facility CSO Network, representing civil society within the world’s largest multilateral fund for biodiversity, and contributes to shaping inclusive, whole-of-society approaches to public climate finance. His work connects technology, policy, and transparency to support collective climate action globally.
