Plant-for-the-Planet began as a children and youth initiative and has grown into a global movement for climate action. Today, it connects children and youth empowerment, forest restoration and conservation, digital innovation, and advocacy to fight the climate crisis and secure a liveable future on our planet.
Plant-for-the-Planet was founded in 2007 by then nine-year-old Felix Finkbeiner on the idea that children can drive change, starting with the simple idea of planting trees. As the movement grew, its work expanded beyond mobilization and tree planting to include forest restoration efforts and closer collaboration with restoration organizations and local communities worldwide. Throughout this development, children and young people have remained at the center of the movement, gaining climate knowledge, mobilizing others, and developing their own projects as Climate Justice Ambassadors.
Over time, this led to a broader approach to climate action that focuses on restoring and protecting biodiverse forest ecosystems, empowering young people worldwide, and contributing to long-term climate solutions.
